Syria is exploring entry into the emerging defence framework involving Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, according to comments by Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani at the Manama Dialogue.

If realised, the move could significantly reshape the regional security landscape.

For Saudi Arabia, it could extend its strategic influence beyond the Gulf. For Türkiye, it could deepen its security footprint in the Levant. For Pakistan, it would add another dimension to an expanding regional defence relationship.

But the implications go beyond military cooperation. Syria's potential inclusion raises questions about regional realignment, Iran's position and the future balance of power across the Middle East.

The bigger question: Is a new regional security architecture taking shape, with Syria potentially becoming its next addition?
